First 20 seconds

This first 20 seconds of the video features the establishing shots and sets the scene of the film. This was because we couldn't get all of our actors together.

The Dark Knight - Prologue (Bank Robbery)

This track holds some of the tense elements that could work in our film. However, the fast paced nature of the track would not suit our film.

Soundtrack

This ambient track will be great for use in the shot film. The mix of rumbling bass and drips from the pipes will add some atmosphere and tension to the scene.

Torturer: SYTHE

Man: ADAM

Woman: RACHAEL

INT. BOILER ROOM

Light comes on and reveals the hostages.

[Adam and Rachael thrash within their constraints as they regain consciousness.]

Adam [distressed]

Uuurghh! W…wh…where…am I? What’s going on here?!

Rachael [confused]

ADAM?! IS THAT YOU…?

Adam [relieved but still worried]

Wh…what is this place?

Rachael [Trying to rationalize]

Jus… Just calm down and do what the man wants

Adam [Worried]

What man?

Scythe [Deep, dark voice]

ME!

[Scythe walks into the light and backhand punches Adam across the face]

Adam [Sobbing slightly]

What do you want with me?

Scythe [Reassuring]

I want you to ask the dear Rachael here some questions about her work

Scythe [Walks around to Rachael and put his hand under her chin]

You see… She won’t tell me. So I thought one of her ‘dear friends’ might help to… persuade her.

Rachael [Angry, Wriggling her upper body to get Scythe’s hand off her face]

You’re a sick bastard!

[Rachael spits at Scythe]

Scythe [laughing and wiping spit off himself]

You see… this is where it becomes ‘fun’!

For every time neither of you tell me the answer to my questions… Adam here gets hurt.

[Scythe grins picking up a baseball bat, then swinging it at Adam’s opposite side of the face from where he was punched]

Rachael [Screaming]

Just stop it you sick fuck! Why can’t you just ask me?

Scythe [Laughing again]

Because you wouldn’t tell me would you?

Adam [Groaning in pain after being hit]

It’s okay Rachael. He won’t kill me if he needs answer from me.

Scythe [Grinning and picking up a knife]

…Of course not.

Rachael [Angry]

Don’t you dare!

Scythe [Serious]

I thought you knew I was… daring

Rachael [Yelling]

Just put the fucking knife down you bastard!

Scythe [Laughing]

But I don’t feel like it!

[Scythe spins the knife around and lunges toward Adam’s neck. Stopping just before and grabbing Adam’s head with his free hand]

Adam [Crying]

Please. No!

Scythe [Grinning]

Don’t worry. I’ll make it quick

Screen goes to black and Knife sound in made

[Rachael screams]

Screen fades back in

Rachael [Crying]

You’re a monster! You didn’t even get chance to ask him

Scythe [Serious]

Only because you made me into a monster…

[Scythe walks towards the door]

Scythe [Walking out the door]

…and we have plenty more to answer my questions

The End

Lighting

Single source of light or the impression of a single source. Multiple light sources may be needed to provide enough light for the set. It may be practical to shoot the scene in relatively brightness and darken it up in post production.

Character Profiles

Adam - Average height and build pale skin. He lives at home with his Uncle who is a war veteran. Adam was reclusive as a child ever since his parents died in a house fire. Adam works as a waiter at a small cafe. In his spare time he plays computer games with his friends.

Rachael - average height, slim with a strong personality. She works for a national intelligence agency who deals with matters of top national security. Rachael is working on a case involving black market trade and high profile businessmen.

Scythe - Tall and buff. An 'off the grid' agent who goes by the code name Scythe. He once worked for Mi6 but went rogue

Location Ideas

These dark dingy locations are the kind of atmosphere we are looking for in the setting of our short film.

The stark contrast from the black and white makes the visual ambiance seem darker and more sinister.

Short Film Concept

Short Film Synopsis

A woman is tied to a chair on a dark room, whilst a shadowy male figure approaches her and interrogates her about some missing documents. The woman refuses to disclose any information to the man. After several threats to kill the woman he gives up. The man then dispatches the woman and moves her and the chair to the other side of the room. The man proceeds to the door and opens it, casting a beam of light across the room, revealing people waiting to be interrogated.


  

The Brief

The short film sequence (5 minutes) should include planning materials such as, a short synopsis, storyboard and a written script. a recce report, evidence of casting considerations, a shooting/ editing log and a risk assessment.
